Moving to Known

1 min read

I've moved my personal website over to run on the Known platform. Known is a tool that let's me post status updates, blogs posts, photographs, check-ins, bookmarks, etc. on a site that I completely own and control and simultaneously publish them on other sites like Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Foursquare, etc. This model is sometimes referred to POSSE:

POSSE is an acronym/abbreviation for Publish (on your) Own Site, Syndicate Elsewhere. It's a Syndication Model where the flow involves posting your content on your own domain first, then syndicating out copies to 3rd party services with perma(short)links back to the original version.

I'm increasingly convinced that owning all my data is critically important. Depending on someone else (like Facebook) to grant me access to my own data just isn't acceptable. I'll continue to POSSE my updates to these 3rd party sites so others can see them, but they'll be originating from here.
